Will Dorey has shared a video for his new single as Skinshape, “Theme For Lazarus,” premiering now on Indie88.
You can really hear a sense of nostalgia on “Theme For Lazarus.” It’s a dreamy tune with propulsive strings, choral-like harmonies, and hazy vocal lines from Skinshape. Directed and animated by Kendra Morris, the accompanying video features some captivating stop-motion animation that rivals the likes of a vintage collage.
“You often get themes for characters in film soundtracks, perhaps this is our protagonist,” Dorey says. “For the music, I wanted to create something that had elements of classic ‘Skinshape,’ but also to add some new ideas that I hadn’t used before such as the pizzicato strings.”

Keep your eyes peeled for a forthcoming album, which would serve as a follow-up to 2018’s Filoxiny. Skinshape draws on the works of artists like Quincy Jones and Ennio Morricone while looking to modern acts like Khruangbin, Quantic, Tame Impala, and more.
“Will Dorey aka Skinshape has proven himself time and again as a connoisseur for the cosmopolitan, across a prolific career expertly exploring understated sounds and theatrical textures,” according to a release. “Taking his place alongside the likes of Khruangbin, Quantic, Tame Impala, Bonobo, and Madlib, Skinshape’s global kaleidoscopes are loaded with warmth and wisdom created on vintage analogue equipment applying a perfectionist’s touch. As a member of indie band Palace, he has played everywhere from Glastonbury and BBC Maida Vale to headlining Shepherd’s Bush Empire.”
