Juno-nominated duo The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer is gearing up for the release of their fifth album, Apocalipstick, set to come out on March 24.
The BC group, which is comprised by Shawn ‘The Harpoonist’ Hall and Matt ‘The Axe Murderer’ Rogers, are currently playing a Canadian tour that started in mid-February.
Directed by Stefan Berrill, the video for “Forever Fool” takes place at a gritty ’70s night club, illuminated by glaring disco lights and a dance floor of bell-bottoms and platforms. Two women (played by Drea Bird and Madison Sheane) enter the club and, in Charlie’s Angels-like fashion, rob and humiliate a group of gambling gangsters. As for the actual song itself, the blues rock influenced “Forever Fool” serves as the perfect soundtrack to the retro music video.
“‘Forever Fool’ is a story of revenge, transition, and thrills — this one told against a glamorous backdrop of sexy dancers, neon lights, and dark shadows,” explains Berrill. “The story follows the takeover of a 1970s nightclub from a set of backroom greasy gangsters by two “badass babes” who carry with them an air of vengeance and authority.”
Berrill also points out that the video was filmed inside Vancouver’s notorious The Penthouse Nightclub, which, he explains, has a “long history involving girls, gangsters, and guns.”
“[…] apparently one of the managers was once gunned down by disgruntled staff in a similar fashion.”
