Washington singer-songwriter Kelsey Magnuson has shared a new single, “Beep Beep,” premiering now on Indie88. The track comes alongside the announcement of her forthcoming debut album, Don’t Budge, out November 2nd via Earth Libraries.
With catchy licks and dreamy vocal lines, “Beep Beep” has a chugging energy that echoes the lyrics of the tune. Throughout the track, Kelsey Magnuson sings of the mundanity and repetitiveness of the pandemic. She also sings of overthinking, delivering lines like, “I can get yeah so distracted/ But my life is just made up of fractions on fractions of fractions on fractions.”
“‘Beep Beep’ is a song written in the first months of the pandemic during a slip into a total loss of my sense of time,” Kelsey Magnuson explains. “But the sound (beep!beep!) of a friend’s watch that went off on the hour every hour was particularly noticeable…how each hour could pass without much happening at all. The days would drag and then all of a sudden pass too quickly-the rhythm and stops in ‘Beep Beep’ echo that specific feeling.”

Don’t Budge is set to see Magnuson leaning into a bedroom pop sound across nine songs. Recorded primarily in bassist Robin Caromosino’s analog home studio, the album has a nostalgic tinge to it.
“The best songs are the ones that generate nostalgia for a place you’ve never been, a person you’ve never met, a memory that isn’t yours,” Kelsey Magnuson says.
