Indie88 Video Premiere: Penny Diving Shares ‘Stella’

New Montreal group share debut single

Montreal quartet Penny Diving are sharing their propulsive new single “Stella” today via Indie88.

Penny Diving is a new project from Chantal Ambridge (The Muscadettes), joined by her partner Thomas Augustin, twin sister Kathleen, and Jonathan Lafrance, The group have been making their rounds in the Montreal scene recently, working on their debut album with producers Adrian Popvich (Solids, Priestess) and Joseph Donovan (The Dears, Sam Roberts).

The band’s new single “Stella” is a darker take on surfy, west coast garage rock with droning keys mixing distorted guitars and forlorn vocals. Ambridge shared her thoughts on the new single:

The writing process is intuitive and telepathic almost, and by being this close to one another, it can only enhance the creative output. With “Stella” the pieces quickly fell together, out of the sky, and into my lap. We wanted the video to portray dreamlike visions, because I think a lot of processing happens in dreams, in your subconscious, and if you can somehow tap into that, you can tap into the bigger picture. Bridging the gap between the tangible and intangible.
