So how’s today going? I hope you’re feeling well and have flipped the couch cushions to ease up on that dent. If you’re working from home or quarantined (or if you live solo, especially) you might find yourself in a weird state of talking to yourself wondering what to do. Maybe you’re not – and good for you! For me, I’m finding myself saying things like “Bar soap IS superior AND saves water!” out loud… to a bar of soap.
So every day I’m here to send you some suggestions, some music to listen to, some movies to watch or things to read, some things to do. This is also helping my sanity, so thank you very much for reading!
Seeing as we’re all carb loading, why not switch from bread making to pasta making? Or… at least watch old Italian Nonnas make their family favourites while in conversation?
YouTube channel Pasta Grannies is a collection of videos from a woman who traveled Italy and filmed making (and eating) pasta with Nonnas, a GENIUS idea. I’m so mad I didn’t come up with this in the before times.
We’re back at it again tonight with Sam Coffey & The Iron Lungs and their pick, the creepy, muppet-y ‘80s fantasy film The Dark Crystal! Think of Netflix Party as Band and a Movie… but you can chat in real time while watching at home on Netflix. All you have to do is download the Netflix Chrome extension before logging in via the link to the movie before it starts at 8pm, it’s very easy.

If you’re getting creative indoors, you’re not alone. Watch the great Karen O perform the first song she wrote for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Our Time,” in a self-isolation party corner!
Shameless plug time. Of course it’s extra weird right now, so to feel a connection on the other side of your headphones (or mine) might be nice.
I’m on air 1-5pm, please text in to say hello 416-588-0881 and tell me how you’re doing. You can also say hi on social @indie88toronto @lanagay
In our current very weird time, why not read about another strange time, prohibition. As a fan of both beer and cheese, I found this story fascinating – read about how Pabst created a cheese making side hustle during prohibition. They weren’t alone, other breweries tried to do things like made ceramics or ice cream.
That’s it for today! Sending love to you and yours, and thanks for staying home. If you want to check out some more suggestions, check out past editions of Indoor Recess:
