Hey, how’s your day so far? I ate fried cheese for breakfast as a way of celebrating the good news that staying home and social distancing is paying off. Big virtual high fives to you for dealing with all of this for weeks for the greater good.
Side note: Perola’s Latin market in Kensington is open, they’ve been around for 50 years and have delicious queso fresco. Frying cheese is my kinda self care so please support them so they’re around forever.
Let’s get to today’s list of suggestions of things to check out while we keep hanging out in the great indoors!
Celebrate Iggy Pop
Iggy Pop turns 73 today, may he be somewhere in the mountains getting essential deliveries at a safe distance for the next 3 – 6 months. Put on an Iggy Pop record today, and might I suggest one of the greats: The Stooges’ Fun House, which also just celebrated its 50th anniversary. Read its 1970 Rolling Stone Review here.
Iggy Pop and David Bowie had a longstanding friendship, in fact, you could say Bowie saved Iggy Pop’s life. Read the tale as told to the New York Times by Iggy Pop, which includes some wonderful tidbits, like their time as roommates in Berlin and writing “Lust For Life” in a small apartment on top of an auto parts store, to the day Bowie decided to visit Pop’s parents in a Detroit trailer park.
You already know this: animal videos rule the internet. But what about a singing and dancing cockatoo beloved by Iggy Pop named BIGGY POP? Indeed, Iggy set up an Instagram account for his pet and there is nothing sweeter and funnier than a shirtless larger than life rockstar complimenting a dancing bird’s moves.
Netflix Party with Half Moon Run
Watch a movie tonight with Half Moon Run and myself! Think of Netflix Party as Band and a Movie… but you can chat in real time while watching at home on Netflix. All you have to do is download the Netflix Chrome extension before logging in via the link to the movie before it starts at 8pm, it’s very easy.

Once I tried to make bread and ended up spending 14 hours making a slightly edible rock – I leave bread to the experts and focus on things with cheese. If you’re a fan of Kraft Dinner, I say give that mac & cheese an upgrade! No judgement, I’m partial to the neon orange powder cheese as well, but there’s something pretty great about homemade mac and cheese.
Thanks for reading. I hope you’re feeling well and taking care over there. If you want some more suggestions, check out past editions of Indoor Recess:
