Hey friend, how’s today going so far? Yesterday wasn’t my favourite, and while carrying the weight of two weeks of groceries home and people dodging, John Prine came on shuffle and I had a bit of a sad frustration cry into my bandana covered face.
Good news: already having most of your face covered with fabric is really good for when you break down in public (very absorbent, less embarrassing,) this also reminded me of a number from….
John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch
At this point comedian John Mulaney postponing his Toronto show is almost part of his routine, I mean, it’s already happened three times and will be at least four. While you wait indefinitely for his return to Toronto, have you watched his kid’s musical comedy special on Netflix yet? Complete with a little help from his friend David Byrne (yes, that David Byrne, of Talking Heads fame and beyond) it’s a weird and wonderful one episode parody/ tribute to ‘70s children’s television with some pretty spectacular guests, a dose of vulnerability, a lot of humour, song and dance.
Reconsider showering so much?
Are you showering less while staying at home? I talked to my friend Kaitlin yesterday who hasn’t shaved or used deodorant since before the pandemic began. It sounds like she’s slowly turning into Teen Wolf and is loving it, AND she doesn’t smell.
Of course you should be washing your hands often and well, but what about the rest of you?
In the 1950s bathing once a week was pretty average, so what’s with our current society’s obsession with showering so much? And what would happen if you didn’t? Here’s an article interviewing people who have stopped washing. Again, even they say “washing your hands is essential” so please keep doing that!
Start the 30 Day Song Challenge
This challenge has been floating around on instagram stories since the pandemic began, seeing as May 1st is coming up, perhaps try it for yourself. I mean, you can start any day, really, and it’s a fun way to go through your music library.
Watch: Post Malone’s Relief Fundraiser
Real talk: Nirvana is one of those bands I don’t really think you should cover. So when I heard Post Malone was doing an epic Nirvana cover set fundraiser I appreciated the idea, but gave it a big ol’ pass. Turns out, this was my bad and now I’m late to the party. I’m also rethinking my whole Nirvana cover free zone.
Post Malone and his socially distanced backing band (featuring Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, guitarist Nick Mack, and bassist Brian Lee) performed an 80-minute, 15-song tribute to Nirvana and it rules. PLUS it continues to raise millions of dollars for covid-19 relief efforts.
So, if you passed, or missed it, or need an excuse to watch it again, here ya go.
Organize your vinyl
Every day my pals Ian and Angela are listening to a record in their collection while they eat dinner. A pretty sweet idea, and also a great way to revisit your collection. If you’re not an organized collector or have realized alpha-order just isn’t working for you when it comes to the paradox of choice conundrum, Instructables’ neuroticly smart way to organize your vinyl is a pretty good game changer.
That’s it for today, I hope you’re feeling well and taking care over there. As always, I’m here to soundtrack your afternoon and give you the condensed scoop on all those press conferences so tune in, and don’t forget you can alway say hello or text in 416-588-0881
