Rumours of the device began in April, when certain Spotify users claimed they received offers within the application to upgrade their accounts to a car-specific streaming package that included the device. Now, the Financial Times have claimed that the device will cost about $100, and it will use the company’s “Spotify Voice” system that has already been introduced in the app.
Spotify’s new hardware, which allegedly will be created by Flex, will be similar to Google’s Assistant, Apple’s CarPlay, Amazon’s Echo Auto with Alexa, and Android Auto offerings. Essentially, it will connect to car stereos through Bluetooth and use buttons that let users program in their favourite playlists according to The Verge.
