The track comes from his recently released album, Fear Of The Dawn. On the day of the release, White proposed to his longtime girlfriend Olivia Jean and they got married onstage. In addition to performing “What’s The Trick,” he discussed the big day with Colbert.
“I thought, as the day was going on, if a day had some left turns, maybe it wasn’t the right day,” White explains of the onstage marriage. “But the day kept going so well! I figured it was a good time.”

“I asked her, ‘Do you want to get married now, or do you wanna wait?’ And she’s like, ‘No! Right now! This is a great day,” White adds.
On the day of the engagement, Olivia Jean and Jack White performed the White Stripes’ “Hotel Yorba,” and when White sang the line, “let’s get married…,” he pulled out a ring to propose. He even paused to say, “I’ve got a question for you. Will you marry me?” Then, at the beginning of the encore, Third Man Records co-founder Ben Swank came on stage to officiate their marriage.
During White’s performance of “What’s The Trick?,” White’s drummer Daru Jones delivers a pretty standout show.
Fear of the Dawn isn’t the only album White is releasing this year. On July 22nd, he’s releasing a “very mellow” acoustic album, Entering Heaven Alive.
