After dropping his new album, Fear Of The Dawn, on Friday, April 8th, Jack White played a show at Detroit’s Masonic Temple Theatre. Serving as a hometown show, the concert was already pretty memorable. But at one point, White invited his girlfriend and Black Belles singer Olivia Jean to come up on stage.
Together, Olivia Jean and Jack White performed the White Stripes’ “Hotel Yorba,” and when White sang the line, “let’s get married…,” he pulled out a ring to propose. He even paused to say, “I’ve got a question for you. Will you marry me?” Then, at the beginning of the encore, Third Man Records co-founder Ben Swank came on stage to officiate their marriage.
Watch a clip of the proposal and ceremony below.
After the brief ceremony, White and his backing band performed a two-song encore. They played the Raconteurs’ “Steady as She Goes” and White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.”
In the video, you can see Jack White and Olivia Jean’s respective bass players serving as Best Man and Maid Of Honour. Both of their families were also in the crowd during the ceremony.
