Jack White Wants to Play the First Vinyl Record in Space

Spinning in outer space

Jack White and his team at Third Man Records plan to continue keeping vinyl on the forefront. He’s recorded, pressed and released the world’s fastest studio-to-store record of all time back in 2014 and his “Ultra LP” of Lazaretto came with more features than a Swiss Army Knife.

Jack White mentioned to astronaut Buzz Aldrin that he aspired to be the first person to play a vinyl record in outer space. White told Aldrin that he plans “to launch a balloon that carries a vinyl record player. And figure out a way to drop the needle with all that turbulence up there and ensure that it will still play.”

July 30 may be the day his out-of-this-world-dream comes true.

Third Man Records posted the above video on their Facebook page revealing they would be making vinyl history again. Is White’s wish coming into fruition?. The end of the teaser shows a gold record, Carl Sagan’s “A Glorious Dawn,” spinning in deep space. A record released by Third Man Records in 2009.

More details from the label are coming soon!
