Canadian musician Alanis Morissette, alongside Tony-winning director Diane Paulus and screenwriter Diablo Cody of Juno, are set to bring Jagged Little Pill to the stage in 2018.
Though rumours of the project emerged in 2013, Morissette has confirmed a timeline for the musical in recent interviews. Debuting at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the onstage rendition of the 1995 album is a “dream come true,” for Morissette. The musical will explore issues of race and gender, as told through a multi-generational family in a contemporary setting.
Diablo has voiced his enthusiasm for the musical, “I am so excited to tell a modern story through these iconic songs. Alanis’ music is full of powerful narratives that lend themselves organically to this process.”
“You Oughta Know,” is among the Grammy-winning tracks to be featured onstage.
