Janelle Monáe to replace Julia Roberts in starring role in ‘Homecoming’ season 2

Actor and singer-songwriter Janelle Monáe is set to succeed Julia Roberts in the starring role of Amazon’s Homecoming season 2, according to TVLine.

Monáe will be playing a resilient woman who finds herself floating in a canoe, but is unaware of how she got there or who she is. It is yet to be revealed whether other cast members like Stephan James, Bobby Cannavale, Shea Whigham, Alex Karpovsky, or Sissy Spacek will be joining Monáe for the forthcoming season.

Roberts had never intended to star in the show past its first season, but will stay on board as an executive producer with showrunner Sam Esmail. The forthcoming season is rumoured to stray from the podcast its based on.

Homecoming season 2 is set to start production later this summer, with a release date in 2020.
