Toronto-based singer-songwriter Jeremie Albino has just released his new EP Past Dawn via Good People Record Co. Past Dawn marks Albino’s third record in just three years, following his 2021 collab with Cat Clyde, Blue Blue Blue, and his 2019 debut album Hard Time.

Amid the constraints imposed by the covid pandemic, Albino began working on the record in February of 2020. While new restrictions presented challenges, they also encouraged Albino to explore new avenues of creativity and experimentation.
He teamed up with producer Michael Trent of the award-winning musical duo Shovels & Rope. The pair banded together after they wrapped their tour in 2020. “We both brought something of ourselves to these songs,” says Albino. “It was great to have external input in an otherwise isolating time.”
Past Dawn finds Albino continuing to evolve his signature musical style, combining elements of folk, blues, Americana, and country, and driven by his soulful storytelling and infectiously spirited showmanship.
“I couldn’t get in a room with anybody and rehearsals with the band kept getting pushed back…In February of 2020 I had been on tour with [award-winning duo] Shovels & Rope and I knew Michael Trent produced his own records. I’ve been a fan of theirs for a long time. It just made sense to reach out and see if he was down to work on something from abroad.”
Earlier this month, Albino released “The Night Was Young,” the first single from the new EP.
Albino has come a long way from his previous life as a farm worker in Prince Edward County. After growing up in Toronto, he moved out of the city and spent a decade growing crops. When his work was done for the day, he’d spend his nights writing songs on his guitar. Before long he had a handful of songs he was performing in local coffee shops. He soon found himself touring the world with huge artists like Nathaniel Rateliff and Black Pumas.
Now he is hitting the road once again, embarking on an international tour set to take him across North America and Europe. Catch Jeremie Albino live, performing in Toronto on April 3 at The Axis Club Theatre with Shovels & Rope. Tickets available here.
