Ever wondered about the Joseph Decreux meme painting? Were you even aware there’s a name for all of these hilarious memes on the internet? And did you know that there are over 1,000 versions of this archaic rap meme now available?
Who Is Joseph Ducreux Anyways?
Joseph Decreux was an eighteenth century French artist who painted (especially at the time) unorthodox oil portraits. Historians don’t know a lot about this Ducreux. It appears, however that he had a good sense of humour.
Being a noble, he had access to various mediums as an artist. He also worked in pastel, and engraving. The artist painted at the court of Louis XVI of France. He also worked with contemporaries such as Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun and Jacques-Louis David.
The levity that he brought to oil painting through specific facial expressions and emotional specificity helped his work to stand out in his field.
All of these things, however, are not what Joseph Ducreux is most commonly known for.
