Fleet Foxes frontman, Robin Pecknold, has called out Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon for making a hypocritical statement regarding Beyonce’s sponsorship deal with Pepsi.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Vernon condemned Beyonce for upholding herself as a role model, despite gaining sponsorship for her tour from Pepsi.
“You have to believe in something. Like, I’d prefer Beyonce didn’t do a Pepsi tour. Do not take $2m from Pepsi and be a role model for young girls. Do not do that. That stuff angers me.”
As several people including Pecknold have pointed out, Vernon has contradicted himself when it comes to corporate sponsorship, considering his appearance in an advert for Bushmills whisky in 2011.
In a since deleted Instagram post, Pecknold posted the cover of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale, The Emperor’s New Clothes, which he captioned: “Is Pepsi and Bushmills a drink?”
Though, it’s to be noted that in 2015, Vernon admitted his regrets with partaking in Bushmill’s advert to Grantland.
Bon Iver will release 22, A Million this week (September 30).
