Kacey Musgraves plays guitar naked in performance of ‘justified,’ plays ‘camera roll’ on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Kacey Musgraves took to Saturday Night Live over the weekend, shere she performed “justified” and “camera roll.”

Saturday marked the start of the famous show’s 47th season. Alongside host Owen Wilson, Kacey Musgraves was the musical guest. Throughout the episode, Musgraves delivered some campy, theatrical performances of two star-crossed tracks.

During her performance of “justified,” Kacey Musgraves channeled Jenny Gump. She paid tribute to the Forest Gump scene where Robin Wright performs naked, covered by her acoustic guitar. During “camera roll,” Musgraves sang at a table with images of people projected across from her. Eventually, she gets up and sings while looking out to the audience.

Next week on Saturday Night Live, Kim Kardashian West will host with Halsey as musical guest. On October 16th, Rami Malek hosts with Young Thug performing. October 23rd will see Jason Sudeikis host with Brandi Carlile as musical guest.

On her recent album star-crossed, Kacey Musgraves is at her most vulnerable. When talking with Rolling Stone, Musgraves explains that star-crossed was inspired by Greek tragedies. Throughout, she draws from her divorce with her ex-husband Ruston Kelly.

“This last chapter of my life and this whole last year and chapter for our country – at its most simple form, it’s a tragedy,” Musgraves says. “And then I started looking into why portraying a tragedy is actually therapeutic and why it is a form of art that has lasted for centuries. It’s because you set the scene, the audience rises to the climax of the problem with you, and then there’s resolve. There’s a feeling of resolution at the end. I was inspired by that.”
