Kevin Parker Threatened By Lawsuit over “Eventually”

Samm Culley, a member of the 70’s funk group Skull Snaps is threatening lawsuit against Kevin Parker over the alleged sampling of a drum track from the band’s “It’s A New Day”.

Culley claims that Parker sampled the 1973 funk tune on “Eventually”, a track on their most recent album Currents. He’s even claiming that the musicologist he hired has corroborated the threat.

Parker was not so concerned, posting this Instagram passing the whole thing off like a joke:

WOW unexpected compliment! The creator of the famous Skull Snaps drum sample thinks my drums IS his actual sample and wants to sue me for not clearing it! Haha!! Sam Culley you have 3 days to fire your musicologist. Anyone think this could be a hoax though?

Though the track has been sampled in the past by the likes of Common and Dirty Bastard, Parker’s sending the message their version was recorded by drummer Julien Barbagallo, and not sampled.

Take a listen to both tracks below, and you be the judge.
