Houston trio Khruangbin have shared a new cover of Booker T. & The M.G.’s “Green Onions.”
Khruangbin have shared a new Amazon Music exclusive, which sees them teaming up with DJ and producer Quantic to cover one of the most beloved instrumental rock ‘n’ roll tracks, “Green Onions.” Their rendition of the tune is a brighter, more uptempo funk anthem.
They still stay true to the legendary organ line, while adding in their own electronic twist.

Steve Cropper says that Khruangbin’s cover of “Green Onions” is “a very nice rendition of the song… I really like the modern touch with the rhythm.”
Booker T & The M.G.’s were the house band at Stax Records. The band played on a whole slew of classic soul songs, and in 1962, they released their own single, “Green Onions.”
Earlier this year, Khruangbin joined forces with soul singer Leon Bridgers to release their second collaborative EP, Texas Moon.
The new EP follows the release of their last collaborative project, Texas Sun. Texas Moon contrasts Texas Sun entirely. The two collections are intended to compliment each other, both musically and thematically. Where the first release was all about sun, this collection is darker and more shadowy, while staying true to their signature groovy sound.
“Without joy, there can be no real perspective on sorrow,” the artists explain of the EP. “Without sunlight, all this rain keeps things from growing. How can you have the sun without the moon?”
