Kim Gordon releases new single ‘Grass Jeans’ to benefit Fund Texas Choice

Former Sonic Youth member Kim Gordon has shared a new single, “Grass Jeans.”

Throughout the month of December, all proceeds from the track will go toward Fund Texas Choice. Fund Texas Choice is a non-profit organization that pays for Texans to travel to abortion clinics. Throughout the track, Kim Gordon repeats the phrase, “Take me downtown!/ I want to go/ And the shadow knows it.”

“I often get asked ‘Can music change things for people in a political landscape?’ Hell yes it can…but it takes a listener, an audience to make it anything,” Kim Gordon explains. “So please join me in helping to protect and keep accessible a woman’s right to choose her fate by purchasing this song and supporting Fund Texas Choice and their collective efforts to secure abortion access for all. Thank you. It means so much.”

Kim Gordon’s fundraiser is in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to refuse to block a Texas law that put an end to almost all medically-assisted abortions across the state. In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling in December, many artists spoke out. Billie Eilish even told a Texas audience, “My body, my fucking choice.”

The new track feels like her older work. Straying from the sounds of her recently released No Home Record, “Grass Jeans” feels almost like a classic Sonic Youth tune.
