Kurt Cobain’s green cardigan that he wore for Nirvana’s legendary MTV Unplugged performance has sold for a whopping $334,000 after being auctioned off by Julien’s Auctions.
On top of selling for much more than anticipated, as it was estimated to sell for something between $200,000 and $300,000, it broke records by being the most expensive cardigan ever sold at an auction, according to Julien’s Auctions. The cardigan, which has reportedly never been washed, last sold for $140,800 in November of 2015.
In Rolling Stone’s interview with previous cardigan owner Garrett Kletjian, he revealed that he felt too much pressure owning the piece of rock history. “I opened it up and it immediately hits me: ‘Oh, now I’m also going to be responsible for this,” Kletjian explains. “It was kind of like when my children were born years ago; I was so happy to see them, but then I was like, ‘Oh no…'”
