Kurt Vile returns with video for ‘Like Exploding Stones,’ announces new album ‘(watch my moves)’

Kurt Vile has shared a video for his new single “Like Exploding Stones.” The track comes from his freshly announced ninth studio album, (watch my moves), out April 15th via Verve Records.

Vile produced the forthcoming album himself with his longtime collaborator Rob Schnapf at OKV Central. The album reportedly let Vile go back to his DIY beginnings, and you can really hear that on “Like Exploding Stones.” The track is a witty tune that comes accompanied by a psychedelic clip. The video sees Vile wandering around an arcade until Sun Ra Arkestra’s James Stewart performs a killer sax solo.

“When Waylor Jennings became an outlaw country artist, he liked to record at Hillbilly Central, which was Tompall Glaser’s studio,” Vile explains. “OKV Central is my version of that in Mount Airy. I’ve come into my own here, and at the same time I’m getting back to my home-recording roots.”

(watch my moves) features contributions from Chastity Belt, Cate Le Bon, Stella Mozgawa, and Sarah Jones.

Much like on “Like Exploding Stones,” Vile leans into his early slack-rocker sound but with more of a refined twist.

The album follows 2018’s Bottle It In and his EP Speed, Sound, Lonely KV.
