Liam Gallagher pays tribute to Taylor Hawkins with performance of ‘Live Forever’

Liam Gallagher dedicated his performance of Oasis’ “Live Forever” to Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins, who passed away on Friday.

During his set at Royal Albert Hall over the weekend, Gallagher delivered an intimate rendition of “Live Forever.” He prefaced the performance, saying, “I dedicate this last song to the one and only Taylor fucking Hawkins. This is for you, brother.”

Hawkins frequently described himself as an Oasis superfan. In fact, he publicly begged the band to reunite during the Foo Fighters’ headlining set at Reading Festival. After that, he forged a pretty close bond with Liam Gallagher, so this “Live Forever” tribute is particularly touching.

Foo Fighters drummer Hawkins passed away at age 50. He was in Bogota, Colombia, to perform with the Foo Fighters. Emergency services had responded to a call about a patient with chest pains in a hotel outside the city. Hawkins was unresponsive when responders attempted to give aid, and declared dead at the scene. No cause of death was given.

In addition to the “Live Forever” performance, Gallagher tweeted about Hawkins’ death. “Absolutely devastated to hear the sad news about Taylor Hawkins,” Gallagher wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends RIP brother LG x”

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” Foo Fighters said in a statement. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.”
