The online world can be a cynical place. That’s why for years now Facebook users have been begging CEO Mark Zuckerberg for a ‘dislike’ button, since the roll-out of the ‘like’ button. Cynics everywhere can finally have their day as it’s been confirmed the button is on it’s way.
“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years,” Zuckerberg said at a press conference at Facebook head offices. “Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.”
Though he explained that the use of the button would be for sad posts like deaths and crises, rather than for malicious reasons. “What they really want is the ability to express empathy,” He explained, “Not every moment is a good moment.”
Zuckerberg also gave reason to the release of the ‘dislike’ button that now seems way overdue, “It’s surprisingly complicated to make an interaction that will be simple,”
