Following the release of their first single, “Currency (feat. U.S. Girls),” Toronto’s Absolutely Free have just shared the title track from their forthcoming record, Geneva Freeport.
The new track is a groovy, retro, synthy track that follows a sort of urgent, yet laid back melody until it builds up to an explosive chorus. “Through fantasy and the starkest of realities, this song brings to question the process in which economic value is prescribed to cultural artifacts,” the band explains in a statement. “How that value is exploited through storing them in high security storage facilities (like the Geneva Freeport) to avoid paying taxes, and how it all seems so antithetical to why most artists create their work in the first place.”
Listen to “Geneva Freeport” below.
Catch Absolutely Free at the Dance Cave on June 20th, the Harbourfront Centre for the Luminato Festival on June 22nd, or the Aga Khan Museum for the Moon Landing Festival on July 20th.
