Listen: alt-J Releases New Song “Hunger of the Pine”

Take a listen to the first taste of the upcoming alt-j record

Last week alt-j announced their forthcoming record This Is All Yours. With the news came few details other than the name and a due date of September 22. After bassist Gwil Sainsbury left the group earlier this year, many have wondered what the new lineup would sound like. In a recent interview keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton said, “Having to write songs as a trio rather than a foursome was a daunting prospect for us at first, but coming up with this song reassured us that — for want of a better phrase — we were going to be OK.” By the sound of the first track they’ve released, they are doing just fine. The deep bass sounds the band is known for is prominent on “Hunger of the Pine”. There is a sample of Miley Cyrus’ “4×4” but it’s simple and works well within the song.
