After announcing their upcoming album last week, Beirut has just released the title track, “Gallipoli.”
In a letter released on their website, Condon discussed the inspiration for the song: “We stumbled into a medieval-fortressed island town of Gallipoli one night and followed a brass band procession fronted by priests carrying a statue of the town’s saint through the winding narrow streets behind what seemed like the entire town, before returning late to Sudestudio.”
The next day, Conton wrote the song in one sitting as a sort of cathartic mix of all of their past and future music. The new tune follows Condon’s previous work perfectly, with a strong set of brass instruments and folky percussion.

The new album Gallipoli is set to be released on February 1st, and the band will play the Sony Centre a few weeks later on February 19th.
