Bon Iver have made their return with “Hey, Ma” and “U (Man Like),” their first new tunes in three years.
“Hey, Ma” is a shimmering, nostalgic track that revolves around memories of a mother’s love for her child. The intimate track is simple, yet powerful, and comes accompanied by a lyric video that’s packed with home videos of frontman Justin Vernon’s family. “U (Man Like),” on the other hand, is a piano-centric, gospel-influenced ballad that features a variety of artists like Moses Sumney, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Elsa Jensen, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus with The National’s Bryce Dessner.
“This project began with a single person,” Vernon explains in a press release. “But throughout the last 11 years, the identity of Bon Iver has bloomed and can only be defined by the faces in the ever growing family we are.”
