Bon Iver are the latest guests on the Thao Nguyen-hosted podcast Song Exploder where artists talk the making of their music. Justin Vernon and producers Brad Cook and Chris Messina dissect their i, i track, “Holyfields.”
The episode, which was recorded at Vernon’s Eau Clair studio where the track was recorded,” sees the band talk about how “Holyfields” came to be, and the influence of recording the track near the U.S.-Mexican border. “Being that close to that border, and everyone at the studio was Mexican, almost except us, being that close to that at this time in our lives, that just influenced everything,” Vernon explained. “Trying to gain perspective and trying to be as good of artists as we can be as things like that are going on, so geographically close.”
