Listen: Bright Eyes share ‘humble’ cover of Vic Chesnutt’s ‘Flirted With You All My Life’

A moving tribute to the late Georgia artist

Bright Eyes have shared a cover of late Georgia artist Vic Chesnutt’s “Flirted With You All My Life.”

“I had the pleasure of seeing Vic perform many times over the years and from a young age,” frontman Conor Oberst explains. “I can truly say he deeply changed my worldview and what it meant to write a really unique and thought provoking song. One of the greatest ever. Always missed. Here is our humble version of one of his best.”

The moving cover has a slow build, opening with a sparse piano and percussion line before bringing in a full acoustic guitar riff, as Oberst wails lines like, “Oh, death you hector me/ Decimate those dear to me/ Tease me with your sweet relief.”

This heartwrenching tribute is sure to bring tears to your eyes, so grab a tissue and listen to “Flirted With You All My Life” below.
