After dropping their silky collaborative track with Beck called “Night Running,” Cage The Elephant has revealed a new melancholic ballad, “Goodbye.”
The yearning, spacey tune opens with a muted piano intro, as the song builds slowly and softly, adding in sparse instrumentals like delicate violin strings and a distant, hollow beat. The somber, reverb-heavy track has a sort of heartbreaking resonance as frontman Matt Schultz sings lyrics like, “My pretty bird, my favourite lullaby/ How’d I become the thorn in your side/ All your laughter turned into a cry/ It’s alright, goodbye, goodbye.”

Cage The Elephant’s forthcoming album Social Cues is set for release on April 19th.
