Charly Bliss have followed up their debut album, Guppy, with the release of a new single, “Heaven.” The contrast between heavy guitars and lead singer Eva Hendricks’ bubbly vocals and catchy hooks makes for the perfect power-pop single. A
lthough there aren’t the same high tempo, thrashing guitar lines that you’ll find in Guppy, emotionally vulnerable lyrics and a powerhouse guitar solo lay at the forefront of this new track, making it their most upfront love song yet. Hendricks reworks a classic concept of being “in heaven with you” against distortion-drenched guitars and muted bass lines to make the line feel fresh and experimental.
In a recent statement, Hendricks explains the greatest difficulty in experimenting with writing her first love song: “I think I was always worried that songwriting was something that only existed to me as a coping mechanism, and that once I was happy I wouldn’t have anything interesting to say or write about.”
