Scottish electro-pop trio CHVRCHES are back with a new album called Screen Violence, which is set for release on August 27th via Glassnote. As part of the announcement, they’ve shared their new collaboration with The Cure’s Robert Smith, “How Not to Drown.”
The forthcoming album not only marks their fourth full-length, but it actually serves as a celebration of 10 years of the band. While frontwoman Lauren Mayberry’s bubbly vocals may take the lead, this song definitely has a darker instrumental line than a lot of CHVRCHES’ releases.
“I think for me it was helpful to go into the process with the idea that I could write something escapist almost,” Mayberry explains of the album. “That felt freeing initially, to have concepts and stories to weave your own feelings and experiences through but in the end, all the lyrics were definitely still personal.”

“To me, the screen aspect was a bit more literal,” Martin Doherty adds of the record. “When we were making the record, it was like half of our lives were lived through screens. What began as a concept was not a lifeline.”
