Listen: Dorothea Paas shares breezy new single ‘Waves Rising’

'Anything Can't Happen' arrives this Friday

Toronto songwriter Dorothea Paas is readying for the release of her debut album, Anything Can’t Happen, this Friday, May 7th via Telephone Explosion Records. Today, she’s previewed the album with a new single, “Waves Rising.”

The breezy new track serves as a follow-up to previously released singles “Container” and “Anything Can’t Happen.” On “Waves Rising,” Paas looks past romantic love to instead sing of love for friends, family members, and a dog, and the beauty of enduring these forms of relationships.

“I started writing this song while I was taking care of a friend’s dog and finding myself frustrated if I couldn’t figure out exactly what she wanted,” Paas explains. “I laughed as I thought about how this situation gave me insight into other (human) relationships in my life. ‘Waves Rising’ contemplates the way it feels to try to consistently love someone, especially someone with whom you’ve established years’ worth of patterns and expectations.”
