Listen: Jensen McRae turns viral Phoebe Bridgers vaccination-themed parody into a real song

She's shared a track called 'Immune'

Earlier in January, singer-songwriter Jensen McRae shared a tweet about an imaginary Phoebe Bridgers songs about vaccinations that eventually went viral.

“In 2023 Phoebe Bridgers is gonna drop her third album & the opening track will be about hooking up in the car while waiting in line to get vaccinated at dodger stadium and it’s gonna make me cry,” McRae wrote in the tweet.

After it went viral, McRae shared a short video of herself performing the imaginary song, which got even more attention, even from Bridgers herself. Now, McRae has shared a full version of the song, which she has titled “Immune.”

“A couple weeks ago I had this idea about the idea of the vaccination anthem,”McRae explains. “This pandemic has colored pop culture permanently, whether we like it or not. On the way to us, almost inevitably, are pandemic romcoms and pandemic novels and, in my case, pandemic songs. This song came about partly as a joke, a parody of one of my favorite songwriters of all time, Phoebe Bridgers, who specializes in dark, spare, precise lyrics about Our Unprecedented Times.”

“Wait for hours in the sun/ In line at Dodger’s Stadium/ I’m not scared of dogs or getting vaccinated,” McRae sings atop a sparse instrumental line.
