Kamasi Washington has shared a stunning new 8-minute track called “Sun Kissed Child” for a new compilation EP called Liberated / Music for the Movement Vol. 3.
On the new tune, Washington is joined by Dwight Trible and Patrice Quinn on vocals, alongside Thundercat’s brother Ronald Bruner Jr on drums. The jazzy track sees Washington and co. delivering lines like, “Hey little sun kissed child/ You are so beautiful and free.”
The EP, which was made for The Undefeated’s “Music for the Movement” series, “celebrates themes of Black beauty, self-love, Afrofuturism, and Black empowerment in song,” a statement explains. It also features a a collaborative cover of Chlöe Bailey’s “Feeling Good” from Common and Cordae, spoken word poetry from Yara Shahidi.
