Watch: Lana Del Rey’s new track ‘Looking For America’ is a response to mass shootings

Her forthcoming album is set for release this month

Lana Del Rey has teased a new track on Instagram titled “Looking For America,” which serves as a response to the recent mass shootings in the United States.

The track comes with accompaniment from Jack Antonoff, as he plucks a slow-burning melody on an electric guitar. The intimate tune comes packed with a sense of melancholy, as Del Rey croons lines like, “I’m still looking for my own version of America/ One without the guns, where the flag can freely fly/ No bombs in the sky only fireworks when you and I collide/ It’s just a dream I had in mind.”

“Now I know I’m not a politician and I’m not trying to be so excuse me for having an opinion,” Del Rey explained. “But in light of all of the mass shootings and the back to back shootings in the last couple of days which really affected me on a cellular level I just wanted to post this video that our engineer Laura took 20 minutes ago.”

Del Rey’s forthcoming album Norman Fucking Rockwell is set for release this month.
