After some very mysterious videos that emerged this week, New Zealand’s primary export has blessed us with a new track “Green Light.”
Lorde used the opportunity to share the news of her upcoming album Melodrama, planned for a summer 2017 release. The 20-year-old singer is expected to perform “Green Light” on Saturday Night Live March 11th with potentially another new track. She’s also slated to headline Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal this summer.
In a few tweets from the artist earlier today, Lorde revealed a few details about “Green Light,” including the fact that it is “the first chapter of a story i’m gonna tell you, the story of the last 2 wild, fluorescent years of my life.”
“[I] am so proud of this song. it’s very different, and kinda unexpected. it’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE.”
The song itself starts off on a slower note, with an intensity and ferociousness in her voice that reminds us of the Lorde we all know and love. Quickly, it transitions into a euro-electronic sound with an almost anthemic tone, fulfilling her promise to get us up and dancing.
The album art for Melodrama has also been revealed. Check that out below, as well as a link to her brand new single.
