Listen: Lucy Dacus shares spacious cover of Snow Patrol’s ‘Chasing Cars’

Lucy Dacus is readying the release of her new album Home Video tomorrow (June 25th). To promote the record, Dacus has shared a spacious cover of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars.”

Taking to SiriusXMU Sessions, Lucy Dacus takes the Scottish band’s hit track, which frequently appears on Grey’s Anatomy, and keeps the melancholic slow burn. Then, Dacus adds an ethereal, atmospheric twist to it.

Dacus’ cover is powerful in its ability to take up space, filling a room with spectral instrumentals. This allows her powerful, throaty vocals wail lines like, “If I lay here/ If I just lay here/ Would you lie with me and just forget the world.” Dacus truly knows how to cement her signature sound onto any cover of her choosing, just like when she covered Hinder’s “Lips Of An Angel” for The Okra Project.

The forthcoming album serves as the follow-up to 2018’s Historian. It’s set to see Lucy Dacus reflecting on her coming-of-age years in Richmond, Virginia. Serving as almost a memoir, Dacus offers snapshots of specific moments of her growing up, as she was learning about the complexity of emotions and relationships.

Home Video is set to feature some stunning previously released singles like the explosive “Hot & Heavy,” the harrowing “Thumbs,” the diaristic “VBS,” and the volatile “Brando.”
