Listen: Nick Cave, Warren Ellis share new single ‘Grief’

It'll be the A-side of a new seven inch release

Following the release of CARNAGE, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have once again collaborated on a new single, “Grief.”

The track is based on a letter that Cave received on the Red Hand Files back in 2018, when a fan named Cynthia asked if he felt that his late son Arthur was “communicating in some way.” Cave responded to the “beautiful question,” saying that “grief and love are forever intertwined.”

The new single, which will serve as the A-side on a forthcoming 7-inch release alongside “Song For Cynthia,” features a spoken word recording of his response.

“I feel the presence of my son, all around, but he may not be there,” Cave adds. “I hear him talk to me, parent me, guide me, though he may not be there. He visits Susie in her sleep regularly, speaks to her, comforts her, but he may not be there. Dread grief trails bright phantoms in its wake.”
