Listen: Of Monsters And Men return with punchy new single ‘Alligator’

The track marks the Icelandic band's first new music in four years

Of Monsters And Men have made their return with their new single, “Alligator,” which marks their first new music in four years.

“Alligator,” which is the first new music from the Icelandic indie folk band since the release of 2015’s Beneath The Skin, has a more driven instrumental that sees Of Monsters And Men toying with grittier guitar lines and punchy vocals. The distorted instrumentals are expansive and pounding as frontwoman Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdóttir sings lyrics like, “I see colour raining down/ Feral feeling, swaying sound/ But I don’t know what you want.”

“The main inspiration behind ‘Alligator’ was a drive and an energy,” Hilmarsdóttir explained to NME. “It wasn’t necessarily what I was feeling at that moment, but I wanted to feel strong. It was about finding that space of feeling empowered. You can hear it in the music; it’s taking space.”
