Pantayo has announced their forthcoming self-titled album, which is set for release on May 8th, and as part of the announcement, they’ve shared their powerful, smooth debut single “Divine.”
The forthcoming record “features eight diverse songs speaking to Pantayo’s musical influences as queer diasporic Filipinas,” according to a press release. The new genre-bending outfit works like an audio diary of how the group has grown together as artists, workshopping traditional kulintang pieces from the Southern Philippines, and adapting kick drums and synths to the modal tunings of gongs to create their own modern sound.
“One way that we can make this world feel like home for folks like us is to mix the kulintang music that we learned with different sounds and song structures that feel familiar to us.
