Parquet Courts have announced their new album, A Sympathy For Life, which is out on October 22nd via Rough Trade. As part of the announcement, they’ve shared a new 10-minute “Plant Life” extended cut.
The band premiered “Plant Life” last Saturday on a Japanese radio station called FM Karuizawa on Dr. Rob’s show. Serving as their first new material since the release of 2018’s Wide Awake!, the song will be available via the limited edition “Plant Life” 12-inch.
“‘Plant Life” the song is my story of rediscovering my passion for music through New York City dance floors,” Parquet Courts’ Austin Brown explains. “It’s a distillation from a 40 plus minute improvisation prompted by producer Rodaidh McDonald, and every way we’ve sliced it up illustrates a different mood of the same perspective of ecstasy and aspiration to not only grow, but form roots outside of our own barriers.”
You can preview the new track at the 10 minute 25 second mark below.
Side B of the new physical-only 12-inch (out now via Rough Trade) features a funky bass-driven remix of the track from Vancouver’s Yu Su. There’s also a celestial mix of the tune from Peak Wifi (Austin Brown and Bryce Hackford).
