Listen: Phoebe Bridgers covers John Prine’s ‘Summer’s End’ with Azure Ray’s Maria Taylor

She also recorded a new version of 'Kyoto' with Jackson Browne

Phoebe Bridgers has taken to Spotify’s Singles series where she covered John Prine’s “Summer’s End” and recorded a new version of her Punisher single, “Kyoto.”

Bridgers originally covered the Prine track back in April during a livestreamed performance, but now she’s recruited Azure Ray’s Maria Taylor for an official version. The cover opens with a voicemail from Prine, before Bridgers comes in with some soft, heartbreaking vocals atop an acoustic guitar line. As the track progresses, Taylor comes in with some equally melancholic harmonies, making for a powerful folk ballad.

On top of the cover, Bridgers recorded a new rendition of “Kyoto,” which sees Jackson Browne adding in some harmonies. The new version is a more stripped back edition than the original, and far less orchestral than the Copycat Killer version, as Bridgers delivers intimate vocals alongside Browne atop a simple acoustic guitar line.
