The most recent episode of Thao Nguyen’s podcast Song Exploder featured Sleater-Kinney, who discussed “The Future is Here” off of their forthcoming St. Vincent-produced album The Center Won’t Hold.
Band members Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker explained their original idea for “The Futureis Here,” which was to duet with a male voice, specifically inspired by opera singer Joesph Keckler, until St. Vincent suggested Tucker sing both parts! “There are so many different voices that a songwriter can explore that don’t have to be tied to your own gender or your own body in any way,” Tucker explains during the interview.
