Listen: Sufjan Stevens shares droning new track ‘Revelation II’

'Convocations' is set for release in full on May 6

Sufjan Stevens is readying his new five volume album, Convocations, which is made up of Meditations, Lamentations, Revelations, Celebrations, and Incantations.

He’s releasing the album one part at a time, and while Meditations and Lamentations have already been released, he’s gearing up to drop Revelations at the end of the week. Today, he’s previewed the forthcoming volume with “Revelation II,” which is a droning, oscillating track that feels reminiscent of a violent wind.

The forthcoming two-and-a-half-hour, 49-track collection was written and recorded in 2020 as a tribute to his father, who died just two days after the release of Stevens’ last album, The Ascension, in September.

Listen to “Revelation II” below.

The five volumes are set to each explore different parts of Stevens’ grieving process, including loss, isolation, and anxiety.

Convocations is set for release in full on May 6th via Asthmatic Kitty.
