Listen: The National share cover of INXS’ ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ to benefit Australian brushfire relief

'Songs For Australia' is set for release on March 12

The National have shared a cover of INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart” as part of Songs For Australia, the new Julia Stone-curated compilation benefitting Australian brushfire relief.

The forthcoming compilation is set to feature artists like Kurt Vile, Dermot Kennedy, Damien Rice, Martha Wainwright, and more delivering covers of Australian classics by artists like Gang Of Youths, Matt Corby, Nick Cave, and more.

The National’s contribution of INXS’s hit track from 1987’s Kick stays true to the original, while adding a quintessential The National-style melancholic twist. The keys-driven cover lets frontman Matt Berninger’s crooning vocals thrive as he delivers classic lines like, “I/ I was standing/ You were there/ Two worlds collided/ And they could never tear us apart.”
