One of Toronto’s best indie rock groups, Tokyo Police Club have emerged from a short hibernation with a new single, “New Blues”.
The Newmarket-born group released to kick off their three week U.S. tour supporting Matt & Kim which kicks off Monday. Tokyo Police Club spend the winter recording “New Blues” and more music in a church in rural Ontario with producer Rob Schnapf.
“It was exciting to hear ourselves in such a big space like that, the drums ring out, the guitars blend and swirl.” Bassist / singer Dave Monks wrote in a press release. “I think it really affected the arrangements and songwriting. We started to favour simple rhythms, slower tempos (relatively speaking) and energy over details. It was really liberating. I think New Blues really shows how we thrived doing that.”
The band say details on their next coming album will be coming in the following weeks. Tokyo Police Club’s last album Melon Collie And The Infinite Radness came out in 2017. Listen to the driving new single “New Blues” below:
