Listen: Unearthed Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic demo includes early version of Nirvana’s ‘Scentless Apprentice’

'The jam was very low key'

A Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic demo has recently been unearthed, which features an early rendition of Nirvana’s “Scentless Apprentice.”

The recording, which was released by American drummer Rey Washam, includes the 1993 track off of In Utero. “I had never met Dave or Kurt and Krist even though I had heard Kurt was a fan of a band I used to be in, Scratch Acid,” Washam wrote in the description accompanying the demo. “The jam was very low key, but I had to play Dave’s drums the way he had them set up for himself. Krist showed up and fun was had by all.”

Listen to the demo below, where “Scentless Apprentice” appears at 24:35.

Allegedly this was only one chunk of the two hour jam session Washam had with Grohl and Novoselic.
