Listen: Yo La Tengo share cover of The Byrds’ ‘Wasn’t Born to Follow,’ announce new EP ‘Sleepless Night’

'Sleepless Night' is set for release on October 9

After releasing an instrumental EP called We Have Amnesia Sometimes, Yo La Tengo have announced another new EP called Sleepless Night. As part of the announcement, the indie trio have shared a cover of The Byrds’ “Wasn’t Born to Follow.”

The new EP is mostly made up of covers of acts like The Byrds, The Delmore Brothers, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Lane, and The Flying Machine, but it also features a Yo La Tengo original called “Bleeding.”

“I’m sure I heard the Byrds’ song for the first time when my mom took me and a bunch of my friends to see Easy Rider,” Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan explains. “(One kid was forbidden by his parents from joining us, as was my younger brother. My dad took my brother to see Butch Cassidy instead, and I’m guessing my friend stayed home and did homework.)”
